PIANO MASTERCLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND CONCERTS BY GILBERT DE GREEVE (BELGIUM)
< Back to EventsUiTM Faculty of Music is proud to announce the visit of Professor Emeritus Gilbert De Greeve to the faculty in May 2018. Professor De Greeve has been a frequent and favourite Guest Artiste at the faculty since 2009. Highlights of his visit this year include A Belgium-Malaysia Evening of Music concert to be held at H.E. the Belgium Ambassador to Malaysia’s residence in Kuala Lumpur and the launch of four (4) compilations of arrangements by Professor De Greeve for Malay folksongs from Malaysia for Beginner Piano, Piano Solo, Voice and Piano and Piano 4-Hands.
Gilbert De Greeve received his first music lessons from his father. He then studied at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, notably with Eugene Traey, Jan Decadt and Jacqueline Fontyn. He majored in Performance and Composition. He went on to study in the USA, meeting among others, with Rudolf Serkin and Eugene Ormandy. His artistic activities of performing, giving master classes and lecturing take him to all over the globe. At the age of 25, he became a Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and Director of the State Music Academy of the same city, a school which he developed from its foundation in 1970 into a major institution with more than 4,200 students. He is Honorary Director of the State Music Academy and Honorary Professor of the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. He is also Past-President of the International Kodály Society and a highly demanded lecturer on the international scene.
