Sounding Now Festival 2019

Date: 12 Apr, 2019 - 14 Apr, 2019 , 9.00am
Location: Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, 3 Conservatory Drive, Singapore 117376

Sounding Now is a festival of contemporary music that brings together divergent contemporary practices with the goal of connecting people from different artistic communities in order to explore the ways their shared interests intersect. Presented by the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, the festival brings together contemporary music of different approaches - concert music, installation, electronics, and improvisation.

Singapore-based contemporary music ensembles OpusNovus, Wu Xian, the Chinese chamber ensemble Ding Yi Music Company and US-based Passepartout Duo will perform at the festival. Saxophone Duo Landman/Stadler from Switzerland will be the ensemble-in-residence.

Running in parallel with the festival is a student composers' meeting that brings together participants from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory as well as partner schools. Students will participate in roundtables and workshops. Prior to the start of the festival, students will propose discussion topics and collectively choose five topics, which will each be discussed for 45 minutes in the roundtables. Student composers will also take part in three hours of workshops in experimental music realisation or improvisation and collaborative composition. Students from partner institutions will also be able to take lessons with YST composition instructors.

Participants should arrive in Singapore on Thursday 11 April 2019 ahead of the festival, and note that the final concert ends arond 9.00pm on Sunday 14 April when making departure arrangements. Overseas student participants will receive shared room accommodation as well as a per diem. Transport should be covered by the participant or their institution.

There are 12 spaces available for international student composers, which will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration deadline is Monday 4 February 2019. Please contact Dr Jun Yan CHOW at muscjy@nus.edu.sg for student registrations.
